Cotton Chikankari Kurtas
Chikankari is a white-on-white embroidery tradition associated with Lucknow, built from a vocabulary of stitches worked over a traced pattern. Much of its effect depends on light passing through the ground fabric, so the technique has always been paired with something fine and breathable rather than heavy.
Cotton is the base that pairing assumes. It takes the needle cleanly, it lets the shadow-work read the way the stitch intends, and it stays wearable through an Indian summer, which is the season these kurtas are usually bought for. Expect the hand to soften with washing rather than degrade.
